Petal by June

Judah Gibbs

Was Spring much too soon my dear passerby?
How silly a thought on the eve of July,
the Spring does not wait for meddler or tune.
Is that why I longed to pick a petal by June?
Our love did sprout like a flower to bloom.
Oh Summer, please wait! Or is there no room?
The time still floats on towards Autumn’s maroon,
so remember the good times which we spent in June.
I’ll hold on to you, forever it seems,
lest He who guides you gives a better dream.
The wind blows, but stay strong my petal, my boon.
Your faith has increased and your path will clear soon.
Let that wind guide you through suffering and gloom,
for the Lord gives great joy, and we’ll pass in June.
