The Dawn of Nights

Judah Gibbs

I wait for the Lord
at the Dawn of Nights.
I ask myself, how can I stay?
The world means to shake me
with astonishing fright.
His soft, pleasing words show me the way.

But still, I shudder,
for my heart seeks delight.
Not in God, but in a broken dream.
My new mind quakes;
unnerved by the sight.
He whispers, “It’s not as dark as it seems.”

Of course I’m in awe
at the sound of His might.
His grace is what I need to be true.
His gifts, like His Son
are to set me right.
And last of all, He gave me you.
